3 Reasons Why Quality Should Be Involved in Circuit Board Design

Making sure that quality plays an active part in circuit board design can save precious time and money. Quality has the capabilities and experience to catch potential problems before they happen (risk assessment) and are able to assist in any part of the planning and manufacturing process.
Quality control and quality assurance professionals are trained to test products (both during and at the end of production) to make sure that what is being produced meets company, customer, and regulatory standards. Quality employees are the best resource to have when it comes to meeting the expectations of customer demands while remaining within the legal confines of the production capabilities.

– These are a set of rules and expectations decided on by a team of professionals in a company regarding the process and end result. Usually, research and development professionals decide what a company needs to make a quality product. They are called research and development for a reason. They find the best materials and the best way to use those materials to end up with an acceptable result. Another part of the company team is quality control. They run tests and monitor quality control protocols built into automated systems. Quality assurance is yet another tier and they investigate processes and figure out where problems occur. They make sure production is following the proper steps set by R&D to end up with quality products.

– Customers can pick and choose what they need their finished product to look like, within reason. They must still adhere to regulatory standards. Quality assurance is a great asset for customer-company relations. They are the go-to people when customers have questions, complaints, or want to check up on their orders.

3. Regulatory Standards
– Some people might not think that the production of circuit boards requires regulation by the Environmental Protection Agency, but they do. PCBs are still manufactured using lead in part of the process. Lead is not a safe material to be around, so its use and the amount allowed in production are heavily regulated.

Some people might not have considered quality control agents as an important part of the PCB design process, but they can actually be a big help. They can help make sure the design meets customer and company specifications and the production of it will stay within the proper regulatory guidelines.

Most large production companies have a quality department with experienced employees that are dedicated to making sure everyone follows the rules and that every finished product is the best it can be every time.
